If I have you run a background check on someone, will they find out?
No. Just like a background check looks at someone background, an expert produced Michigan background check will be conducted completely in the background and will leave no trace to you. Also, the vast majority of background checks don’t even disclose any information that would indicate that a background check was ever conducted. There are some very specialized types of searches that can be a part of a Michigan background check which require an investigator to request certain records in writing, but those are very limited and never disclose who our client is or why we are seeking the information.
How far back in time can a Michigan background check find information on someone?
It would be great to say that we can go back fifty years or more and conduct a background check, but in reality, there are very few records available to look for from that far back. If you think about, commercial databases of records and electronic records storage did not truly begin to become adopted in mass until the late 1990s. Most of the normal repositories or public records have destroyed old papers records that they no longer wish to archive, so records from before electronic storage are more and more limited every year. Having said that, we regularly conduct Michigan background checks for clients that look back twenty-five years ago or beyond. The reality is that the further we must look back, the less records tend to be available.
Can I run a background check on anyone?
Yes and no. The truth is, a background check can be run on anyone. As independent information gatherers, we conduct background checks on people from all walks of life without issue. In reality, there are times when, as expert Michigan private investigators, we are asked to conduct a background on someone that we choose not to. As an example, if you ask us to conduct a background check, but you are specifically looking for us to find contact information for the members of the family of an actor so you can contact them to get that celebrities attention, we are not willing to take this type of case, and no responsible Michigan PI should. Also, if you are looking to conduct a Michigan background check for purposes of hiring an employee, there are rules and limitations on what records you can search for. This type of employee background check is very specialized. We can assist you with this too. Please look at our employee screening services here.
Can I get instant background check results?
In truth, you can pay some web-based companies to run a search that they call a background check and those “background check” websites will spit out a report instantly, but what you are getting from them is a scrape of records that may or may not apply the actual person you are looking to have a background check conducted on. The bad news is, these sites guarantee nothing, and often just give you a big dump of data about anyone with a name even close to your subject. Worse yet, many times the information that they spit out is just a entry on a report and is not backed by any proof of accuracy or connection to your subject. In our opinion, these sites offer more confusion and trouble than real information. As expert private investigators who specialize in Michigan background checks, we urge you to avoid these instant sites.
Can I run a Michigan background check on myself?
Absolutely. Many times we are asked to run someone’s background check to find out what information is available to be found. Sometimes this involves past problems that a person is looking to ensure are no longer discoverable. Other times we conduct a background check for someone who has concerns that false, negative information is out there and connected to them that they are unaware of and need to get removed. Other times, when someone plans on applying to a program or for employment that requires a very high level of background check for acceptance, they ask us to see what comes back before they actually apply just to be safe. Are all Michigan background checks the same?
No. A background check is a highly customizable investigation. Often people think that a background check is simply a search of public records (like courts) and that’s about it. Many employers who conduct employee screening will use these basic public records type searches, looking only for felony criminal convictions. Although this is certainly part of a background check, this is only one element. At ASG, we build specific background checks that address your specific concerns. By customizing them, we can hep you get the information you need without wasting your time and money looking for records that are of no concern.
